Teaching Philosophy
Psychology is a special type of human sciences. On the one hand, it is a scientific discipline with emphasis on controlled experimental environment and statistics-driven hypothesis testing. On the other hand, it is impossible to learn psychology without referring to one’s subjective experiences. I believe that teaching psychology is to first motivate students’ inward examination and then guide them to look beyond the subjective experience towards a scientific understanding of mental phenomena. From my point of view, psychology is not only a scientific field of human mind and behavior, it is also a philosophy about coordinating subjective and objective thinking, which should be beneficial to a student’s career no matter what path they choose to pursue.
